#258: Queen Anne, Western Ave at Bay St

258) Observant readers know that I always title my post with the neighborhood in which the current box resides. It’s usually pretty easy to make this designation, but sometimes… sometimes it’s not so clear. Take today’s mailbox, for example. According to the maps, it lives on the very outer edge of Queen Anne, but any reasonable person would say that’s quite a stretch. I tried to ask the box which neighborhood it aligns with, but it just hissed at me and went back to sleep.

Downtown, Alaskan Way at the Ferry Terminal

XXX) It’s time for my least favorite game… The Box of Disappointment! For some odd reason, I had been looking forward to visiting the mailbox at the Alaskan Way ferry terminal. There was something about this box that seemed so… so… so Seattle to me. Can you dig it? When the time finally came to pay it a visit, I could hardly contain myself as I darted across Alaskan and started scanning for it… and coming up empty. It was gone. No more would it receive the postcards written by ferry passengers on trip from Bainbridge Island. As you can see, I decided to just stand around and pout for a while. Shut up, you would have done the same.

Downtown, 2nd Ave at Lenora St

113) Let’s face it, Seattle is not exactly known for its mass transit. Things are slowly getting better, but right now we really lag behind what other cities have to offer. Whenever I can’t work the bus or light rail into my commute, I usually just end up hopping on the first available mailbox and riding it to my destination. It’s not the most comfortable way to travel, but you’ll get there eventually.

Downtown, 5th Ave at Lenora St

85) What can I say about this downtown mailbox that almost certainly has not already been said? I’m sure many other people strolling along 5th Ave at Lenora Street have remarked about its proximity to the lovely brick facade and those summery planter boxes. I’m sure many others have also looked deep into the box and fallen victim to its enchanting ways. It’s best that I simply say nothing more.
