96) There I was, trying to concentrate on getting this mailbox photo… but something kept distracting me. Calling to me. Drawing my attention away from the task at hand. Unable to concentrate. Mailbox? What mailbox? Whoa, sorry! I drifted off again! Anyway, I dare you to visit this box at the intersection of Wilson Ave S and S Dawson Street to see if you can do any better.
South Lake Union, Fairview Ave at Thomas St
95) You ever have those days when you just want to blend in with the surroundings and let the world pass you by? Well, if you happen to feel that way when you’re in the South Lake Union area, I strongly recommend visiting this box on Fairview Ave at Thomas Street. Between the box and those shrubs, no one will notice you.
Meridian, N 56th St at 1st Ave NE
94) This was one of those happy chance encounters that just doesn’t happen often enough. I was test-riding some new pedals on my bike and sticking to quiet, low-traffic side streets. When I came upon this yet-to-be-photographed box in Meridian on N 56th Street at 1st Ave NE, I figured “hey, might as well get it.” Plus, it’s a good opportunity to show off my sweet new Delstroyers t-shirt.
Capitol Hill, 15th Ave E at E John St
93) I find that most mailboxes are willing participants in my project, but then there’s this guy up on Capitol Hill. He simply would not come out from behind this tree. I begged. I pleaded. But he held firm. Good luck finding this one… you can spend hours scouring the area around 15th Ave E at E John Street and never spot it.
SLU, Dexter Ave N near Harrison St
92) As you can see, I wanted to give this South Lake Union box plenty of space. There was something about it I just didn’t trust and I felt that getting any closer would simply put me at too much risk. If you’re walking on Dexter Ave N near Harrison Street, I recommend swinging wide.
Belltown, Broad St at 3rd Ave
91) It doesn’t get more “Mailboxes of Seattle” than this, does it? Seriously, this box on Broad Street at 3rd Ave might be the most Seattley box of them all.
Ravenna, Roosevelt Way NE at NE 57th St
90) Let’s have a geography discussion. I took this photo on Roosevelt Way NE at NE 57th Street. I often see references to this area still being part of the University District, but for my money it’s too far north and too far east. It’s in some weird hybrid land where Roosevelt and Ravenna overlap. Roovenna, maybe. Yeah, let’s go with that. Roovenna.
Capitol Hill, 19th Ave E at E Republican St
89) One of the great things about Capitol Hill is that you can sit down on the street and pose for a picture next to a mailbox, and no one passing by will give you a second glance. In fact, I dare say I was one of the least unusual people on 19th Ave E at E Republican Street that afternoon.
Downtown, 3rd Ave at Virginia St
88) Prepare to have your mind blown. At first glance, you might think I totally screwed up with this picture… but then you soon see the mailbox through the window! But then you wonder where I am… then you see my faint reflection positioned just to the right of the box! It’s art! It’s art! If you want to create art like this, head downtown to 3rd Ave at Virginia Street and give it a go!
Montlake, 24th Ave E at E Lynn St
87) Then there are the days you can’t be bothered to do the simplest of things. Like actually get out of the car. In my defense, time was a bit tight AND I was able to back into a parking space about two feet from my Montlake target. True, I do prefer to be able to spend some quality time with each mailbox, but sadly this one on 24th Ave E at E Lynn Street is just going to have to deal with it.
