35) WOULD YOU LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS THING!! Not only is the box itself enormous, it is an ultra-rare double-snorkler, enabling the fine people of Lake City to mail massive amounts of items in a tidy, orderly fashion. It’s just so big, and you can see it for yourself at the post office on NE 127th St, right off of Lake City Way.
Pike Place Market, Pike Place
34) There’s a lot going on in this photo, so stick with me. I’m standing on Pike Place, which, for some reason, is still legal to drive on. Those people are lined up for Starbucks, just so they can say they got coffee at the first Starbucks location. I don’t drink coffee, so I have no idea why that would be a thing you would stand in a long line to do. If you were a fan of the original 1960s TV series, my t-shirt will need no explanation.
Boeing Field, E Marginal Way
33) Best I can tell, this is the one mailbox for the entirety of Boeing. Every single piece of mail they send probably gets deposited in this box. This must be one busy mailbox, yessiree. Fortunately, I visited it early in the day on a weekend, otherwise I probably would have been trampled by the constant stream of workers mailing things. If you find yourself on E Marginal Way, be careful.
Maple Leaf, 15 Ave NE and Lake City Way NE
32) I wish this Maple Leaf mailbox was about 100 feet farther north, because then I could have gotten a shot with Pagliacci in the background. And you would have known where I ate a couple of delicious slices mere moments after taking this photo. Head over to 15 Ave NE and Lake City Way NE to see for yourself
Fremont, Troll
XX) A couple weeks ago I petitioned the Fremont Arts Council to remove that silly VW from the Troll statue and replace it with a mailbox. As you can see, they listened to me!
Pioneer Square, S King St just off of 1st Ave S
31) This big Pioneer Square box on S King Street just off of 1st Ave S holds a special meaning for me. In the mid-90s I passed by this box almost daily, went through those doors in the background, traveled five stories straight up, and performed my workly duties at a great software company… one that alas, is no longer with us.
SODO, 4th Ave S near S Lander St
30) Sometimes you just have to take the best shot that you can get. I would have loved to have stood side-by-side with this glorious double-wide snorkel box, but to do so would have caused a bit of a traffic jam in the drive-thru lane of this post office in the SODO district. If you visit this box on 4th Ave S near S Lander Street, have your mail ready to go and don’t waste any time in the line!
Beacon Hill, S Walker St and 31st Ave S
29) Over on Beacon Hill, I found this nice mailbox at the intersection of S Walker Street and 31st Ave S. So I had a nice lean, against this nice pole, with that nice house in the background. Nice.
Downtown, 1st Ave between Marion and Madison
28) I’ve visited a few post offices in the course of this project, but let’s face it… this Federal Station downtown on 1st Ave between Marion and Madison has the grandest entry of them all. But even status such as this is not sufficient to keep their box free of graffiti.
Queen Anne, W McGraw St at 3rd Ave W
27) I was rather surprised to notice that I had not yet visited the Queen Anne neighborhood for this project, so I sneaked up there this morning to rectify this omission. As you can see, I was trying to play it really cool and stay somewhat hidden… the last thing I wanted was for a mass of angry QA residents to spot me and take retribution for overlooking them for so long. This great hiding place is next to the hardware store on W McGraw Street at 3rd Ave W.
